Elaine & Ho Cheung came from Hong Kong to celebrate their wedding in Da Nang for one simple reason – they both love the sea.

Their destination wedding in Da Nang began with a traditional tea ceremony surrounded by family. But before the quieter rituals came a room full of laughter, games with their closest friends, red envelopes, and even a few tears before the groom finally made his way to the bride.

In the days leading up to the wedding, one thing had been on their minds: the rain.

Luckily, their ceremony by the sea unfolded just as they had hoped. Surrounded by family and friends, with the ocean behind them and a cloudy sky above, Elaine & Ho Cheung stood together and exchanged their promises.

And then the rain came.

Everyone had to move indoors to a restaurant that had never been prepared to host the reception. There were no decorations as originally planned, and the lighting and sound were far from what anyone had imagined for the evening.

Yet what stayed with Olwen was how quickly none of it seemed to matter.

Elaine & Ho Cheung kept smiling. Their guests stayed close, ate, talked, laughed, and simply enjoyed being together. Somehow, the unexpected change made the evening feel even warmer and more alive.

For Olwen, being a Da Nang wedding photographer is not only about photographing everything when it looks perfect. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen when plans change, people stop worrying about how things were supposed to be, and simply live the moment in front of them.

At some point, it almost felt as though everyone had forgotten about the rain outside – and about the dinner that was supposed to happen on the beautifully prepared lawn.

About an hour later, the rain stopped.

Everyone stepped outside again.

The night continued with laughter and dancing. Elaine & Ho Cheung shared their first dance beneath the open sky, surrounded by the people who had travelled to Vietnam to celebrate with them.

And at the end of the night, everyone gathered once more, holding sparklers as the two of them walked through the light together.

It wasn’t a wedding day that followed every plan.

But looking back at these photographs, perhaps the unexpected parts are exactly what made this wedding by the sea in Da Nang so distinctly theirs.

Because in the end, a wedding is rarely remembered for how perfectly everything went.

It is remembered for the people who were there, the feelings that were real, and the way everyone chose to keep celebrating together – even when it rained.
